Kathak Classes to start in
September 2011

Taalim School of Indian Music is
proud to welcome a new member to our faculty this month. Acclaimed
kathak dancer and teacher, Ms. Jin Won, will join the Taalim team and we will be
offering lessons in the beautiful classical dance of India: kathak.
Weekly group class and private lessons will be held in New Hyde Park, NY (Long
Island) and in Edison, NJ.

registrations for Indian Vocal Lessons, f

or Fall Semester, beginning
September 2011, at a location near you in NY/NJ



Beginners will learn some
basics of Indian Classical Music and Some Popular Bhajans, Bollywood Old and New
Songs, Microphone techniques, Stage presence and much more. They will later be
upgraded to the Advanced Level where students will learn to sing Raags with
Aalaps, Taans and much more. All students get an opportunity to perform at the
events organized by musicsunita, at your respective locations, and musicsunita's
Annual Recital.

Ustaads... Beat a Tabla! Strum a Sitar! Groove to Teen Taal
and Rock to a Raga!


Little
Ustaads, an Indian Classical Music class for children between the ages of 0-5.
Already a success in Mumbai, the program introduces your little ones to the
fundamentals of Indian Classical Music - sargams, alankars, ragas and taal. The
curriculum, music and presentation is uniquely created for this program and
taught by trained Classical teachers. Through playful puppets, vibrant visuals
and rhythmic sounds, children will be exposed to sounds/music/language and
visuals that they never would otherwise experience. Little Ustaads is a packed
45 min session of Indian culture, values, Hindi language, arts and
FUN!

Ta Ka Di Mi: Exploring South Asian
Dance

India has over eight classical dance styles and
hundreds of folk styles which have made an impact on the world of dance. This
two-day intensive presented by the Ailey Extension, The Anamika-Navatman
Project, and The Sa Dance Company, will engage the dancer in a myriad of
movements ranging from the rich techniques of Indian classical styles to the
festive and energetic nature of folk and Bollywood. The intensive will include
eight introductory level classes taught by master teachers from around the world
such as Maya Kulkarni, Sridhar Shanmugam, Uttara Coorlawala, Pooja Narang, and
Sarina Jain. Students will gain insight into the beauties and intricacies of
South Asian dance and music through instructors who have shown to be
inspirational teachers within their field.
